Jaana Maijala

Maijala has studied fne arts and holds a MFA degree in photography from the School of Art and Design at Aalto University, Helsinki, FI (2013). In her artistic work Maijala deals with the combination of photography and drawing. She begins her work often with drawings because she enjoys how drawing immediately follows life as it is lived. For Maijala pencil is a tool of trial, thought and recording. Afterwards she often photographs her drawings. For her camera’s role is to refne ideas and experiences: make them solid and bring them to light. At the moment Maijala is interested in what lies behind a drawing: in seeing beyond what we know, seeing the nature of mind. Tis search has been inspired by her buddhist studies and practice with the Dzogchen lineage. Since 2018 she has been the other half of Stump Of Prometheus, a collaboration with sound artist Ville Linna.
